General information:
Piaski is a fishing village and seaside resort situated on Vistula Spit, 2.5 miles from the national border. Piaski is a village formed round an inn dating from 1429. In the 15th century it was a fishing village administered by Gdansk, and from the 16th century it was an ecclesiastical village. It was often threatened by shifting sands. The last church, modelled on a structure in a park in Sopot, was dismantled during the First World War. A Mennonita cemetery dating from the 18th century has been preserved here. Population is about 200, mostly employed in fishery. Fishing harbour from the side of Vistula Lagoon is divided into two parts by the wooden pier 51m long. The W quay is 84m long, E quay is 84 m long and N quay 66m long. There is a beach harbour, 87m long, from the side of Gulf of Gdansk. The road connects the beach harbour with the village. During fishing season on the waters of Vistula Lagoon, the boats from the beach harbour have been transported by lorry to the lagoon fishing harbour.
