The Port of Police

Position:Lat. 53°33' N
Long. 14°36' E

Police is a small city situated 15 kilometers north of Szczecin on the west bank of the main fairway Świnoujście-Szczecin. The population is 40,244.

The city's growth and existence is due to one of Poland's largest chemical works - Zakłady Chemiczne "Police". They produce mainly phosphate and complex fertilisers and titanium white. The Port of Police belongs to the chemical works, so it operates as a terminal handling mainly bulk cargoes such as: titanium ore, phosphate rock, fertilisers, ammonia and sulphuric acid. It is situated at the left bank of the Police Channel (Wąski Nurt), between 45 and 50 km of the Szczecin-Świnoujście Fairway. The port area consists of the Sea Port, the Barge Port and the Mijanka Port.

The Sea Port operates with 415 m of quays accommodating ships with length not exceeding 200 m and max. draught of 9.15 m. Approach to the Barge Port is 1350 m long channel with bottom width of 14.5 m and 4.5 m depth. Basin at the end of the channel provides three quays totalling in length of 791 m. The Mijanka Port is a berth situated 1 km south of the Sea Port specialising in handling liquid chemicals. It is able to accommodate ships up to 10,000 DWT.

In 1998 the total cargo throughput amounted to 2.9 mln t, dominated by phosphoresces in import and fertilisers in export.

The Port of Police is under the control of the Szczecin Harbour Master's Office.

Since January 2005 quays of the port of Police are managed by Police Seaport Authority.
